For the time being, these are only suspicions, based on the testimonies of several fishermen from Concarneau (Finistère).

On Friday May 13, sailors reported the presence of waste in the wild Glénan archipelago.

Suspicion quickly fell on the Ocean Majesty, the only liner to sail in the area.

An excavation was even organized during his stopover in Lorient (Morbihan).

"In the absence of any breach, the liner resumed its journey," said the maritime prefecture.

Overflights of the area had not found any waste.

Coming from Calvados, the liner and its 150 passengers were able to resume their cruise towards Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique).

Twelve days later, the maritime gendarmerie of Brest launched a call for witnesses in an attempt to collect information about these suspicions of pollution.

“The presumed pollution would consist of a voluntary rejection of many garbage bags, metal drums and packaging boxes”, specifies the Prémar.

The Concarneau maritime gendarmerie also wants boaters or fishermen who discover this type of waste "whether drifting or discovered during the raising of the nets" to give the alert as soon as possible by dialing 02 98 50 77 35.
