The communist town hall of Vitry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) has validated a decision which may seem unecological.
It concerns the felling of several hundred-year-old trees as part of the refurbishment of a building.
Residents have launched an online petition against the measure which has collected more than 1,500 signatures, indicates Actu Val-de-Marne.
The initiator of the approach thus intends to denounce the destruction of “a green lung in a territory which is nevertheless becoming denser at great speed”.
The trees, chestnut trees and plane trees, are located near the Lycée Chérioux in a district frequented every day by thousands of people.
About fifty trees concerned
No less than fifty trees are concerned.
Their demolition is due to the project to destroy a school building and replace it with an extension.
This operation would lead to “the destruction of a rich and exceptional ecosystem: woodpeckers, bats, bees, etc.
“, warns the petition.
