Beijing imposes sanctions and issues warnings to residents and companies to combat Corona

The Chinese capital, Beijing, which is witnessing an outbreak of the new Corona virus (Covid-19), has tightened measures to prevent the spread of the disease, aiming to prevent the transmission of infection among the population completely, and penalize workplaces that violate instructions or evade restrictions, and prompt residents to monitor their movements themselves.

Since the end of April, the city of about 22 million people has been witnessing dozens of new infections every day.

Although most of the new cases are in quarantine areas, few infections have been monitored outside, which highlights the ability of the Omicron strain to transmit easily and quickly, with the challenges that this poses to the most stringent country in the world in the policies of containing the pandemic.

With the monitoring of new cases in Shanghai, the center of business and commerce, and other large cities undergoing partial closure and other restrictions, the government is still focused on the (zero Covid) policy, despite the losses it caused to the second largest economy in the world and to supply chains.

Commenting on the situation, the new China News Agency (Xinhua) wrote that some workplaces ignored the policies to prevent the spread of Covid and did not conduct health tests on their employees, which allowed the transmission of infection.

Over the course of the week, health authorities in Beijing issued mobile text messages to residents urging them to monitor previous travels for COVID-19 cases and report themselves to local officials if their movements intersect with an infected person.

The National Health Commission said today, Wednesday, that mainland China recorded 590 new cases of the Corona virus yesterday, Tuesday, of which 117 showed symptoms and 473 were asymptomatic.

On the previous day, China recorded 688 new cases, including 156 with symptoms and 532 without symptoms, which China counts separately.

No new deaths were recorded, keeping the number at 5,224. As of May 24, mainland China recorded 223,605 confirmed cases of the Corona virus.
