Egypt.. thwarted a minor marriage 24 hours before her wedding

Today, Tuesday, Samiha Saad, Director-General of the Child Protection Unit in the Egyptian governorate of Qena, revealed that an attempt to marry a minor was thwarted 24 hours before her wedding in one of the villages of the Abu Shat district, north of the Qena governorate.

Saad told "Cairo 24" that the General Child Protection Unit received a report from the Child Helpline stating that a 15-year-old girl had married a 30-year-old girl, and immediately a team was directed to the site of the communication, the marriage was aborted, and the prosecution was notified. to complete the procedures.

 The Director General of the Child Protection Unit confirmed that the committee had contacted the girl’s family to rescind the marriage before reaching the legal age, and to inform them of the health and legal damages resulting from it, noting that the necessary pledges had been taken on the girl’s father, to prevent him from completing her marriage before she reached the age. The legal officer is 18 years old, and the girl will be monitored weekly, to ensure that her marriage is not completed in secret.
