Off the coast of Amami Oshima in Kagoshima Prefecture, coral spawning has begun, and a fantastic sight of countless pale pink grains floating in the water is spreading.

Coral spawning was confirmed in the sea at a depth of about 5 meters offshore about 500 meters from the Kuninao district of Yamato Village.

Katsuki Ko, who is investigating marine life, succeeded in shooting for three days from the 20th to the 22nd of this month.

According to Mr. Xing, at around 10:30 pm, pale pink grains with a diameter of about 0.5 mm were released from the surface of the coral.

These capsule-shaped grains are called "bundles", which contain eggs and sperm together, and the release lasted about 40 minutes.

The "bundle" pops when it reaches the surface of the sea, then fertilizes, floats in the sea for a few days to a few weeks, and then settles on rocks.

About 20 years ago, a large-scale bleaching phenomenon occurred and the coral was temporarily destroyed, but after that, it gradually recovered and is now one of the leading coral habitats on Amami Oshima.

On the island, diving companies are currently mooring ships by using common buoys instead of anchors to prevent damage to the corals.

Mr. Xing, who took the picture, said, "I felt the strength of the coral when I saw the life in the sea at night quietly. The corals that were once destroyed are recovering and growing vigorously, so I will continue to monitor them. I want to continue the investigation. "

Coral spawning in the Amami region begins in earnest in the summer and can be seen until around September.
