So far, 42 kindergartens have been closed under the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act of 1988, including 20 in Kinta district and six in Perak Tanga, Muhammad Akmal Kamaruddin, head of the Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Commission in Perak state, said.

The New Streets Times reported that more kindergartens in Perak are expected to close after the increase in cases of "hand, foot and mouth disease".

The number of cases increased by 10% last week, while this week it increased by 15%.

Until the problem is resolved, all kindergartens will be closed temporarily."

In statements to reporters, Muhammad Akmal added: "We urge everyone to be vigilant and follow the advice of the Ministry of Health."

And Muhammad Akmal had said the day before yesterday, Friday, that a total of 2,638 cases of the disease were recorded in the nineteenth epidemiological week ending on May 14, an increase of 15.6 times over 159 cases that were recorded in the same period last year.

Of the total, the largest number of cases was related to children aged six years and younger at 2465 cases, followed by the age group from 7 to 12 years at 150 cases, and people over 12 years old at 23 cases.
