Ruben Östlund won an award in Cannes 2017 for "The Square" and now he has a chance again with "Triangle of sadness".

The film is a satire on the fashion world and social hierarchies and the title refers to the worry wrinkles you get between the eyes.

Swedish directors Tarik Saleh and Ali Abbasi (educated at the film school in Copenhagen) also participate in the competition and Ruben Östlund does not think it is strange that so many Swedes are fighting for the Palme d'Or this year.

The Danes, on the other hand, have received far too much attention in recent years, he says.

- They make conventional, boring storytelling films, says Ruben Östlund to Kulturnyheterna.

"Do not care"

The Danish director Susanne Bier has reaped international success with the TV series The Undoing with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman and the film Birdbox with Sandra Bullock.

In 2020, her compatriot Thomas Vinterberg received an Oscar for his "Another Round" in the category of best international film.

But Ruben Östlund is not so worried about what they should think.

- I do not care - they simply do not make such a good film, he says.
