With a set of the most important productions, Cinema Akil reorganized the Italian Cinema Week in its second session, after a two-year break due to the Corona crisis.

The new session - which reaches the closing station today - carried a program full of the most important classic and contemporary works, with the screenings including three films by the late actress Monica Fetti, who presented her with director Michelangelo Antonioni, who launched her career until she was called the Queen of Italian cinema.

The film program highlights the feelings of isolation, alienation and exile that characterize the classic and contemporary films shown, and combines the stories of exiled characters, heroes, outcast heroines, lone wolves, famous geniuses, political themes, and tales of dissidents and tragic princes.

The films present the tales of a group of individuals vying for survival and striving in earnest.

a program

Monica Vetti's films were selected in cooperation with the Cultural Institute in Abu Dhabi.

“We are delighted to resume our partnership with Cinema Akil through a program that cleverly combines history, contemporary, adventure and drama, honoring our most recent cinematic works, as well as the unforgettable character Monica Viti, one of the greatest talents that world cinema has seen,” said Ida Zellio-Grande, director of the institute.

And about the Italian Cinema Week and the program that it includes, Cinema Akil Foundation, Buthaina Kazem, told "Emirates Today": "We are pleased to return the program, because it is one of the first plans we set when launching our project, as Italian cinema is one of the most important references to the seventh art in the world, starting with Silent films and even their development, and the Italian festivals are among the elite cinema forums by international standards.”

She added, "Despite the tyranny of commercial cinema on the scene and this artistic industry, Italian cinema remains present in everyone's imagination, as it is full of weight throughout history, and for this we give the audience the opportunity to explore this cinema and review history through films," pointing to the presentation of a special quality of business, and to celebrate the career of Monica Vitti during her time with Michelangelo.

And Buthaina Kazem continued, "After the reopening of Akil Cinema following the Corona crisis, we focused on Italian films due to the importance of the cinema of this country, and we also seek to cooperate with several parties and strengthen relations with more strategic partners," praising the partners' confidence in the options they offer.

She stressed that this cooperation is characterized as a common interest for an artistic and cultural presentation at the first level, and not a purely commercial cinema, explaining that they focus on films that influenced the industry of the seventh art. Within specific geographical boundaries, geography takes on a more comprehensive space, which is why he focuses on the idea of displaced persons from the region and asylum in Europe.

She stated that Cinema Akil is interested in showing films produced in the Arab region, especially those that do not take their share of the show in commercial cinemas.

On the role of Cinema Akil in Dubai, Kazem said that it has a wide audience, but commercial cinemas attract the audience, but there is always a parallel cinema, and we are confident that we are embarking on a project that goes against the trend, but this stems from the belief in the message on which the project was launched. , especially with the absence of film festivals in the Emirates, as it was the space that showed films made in the region.”

She considered that festivals specialized in cinema are distinguished by highlighting a special quality of films, and some of them have special programs to finance film production, hoping that the Red Sea Festival in Saudi Arabia will be able to restore the movement of festivals in the region, and to have a distinguished role in introducing alternative films in the region. .

Challenges

Cinema Akil Buthaina Kazem Foundation said, "The role played by our initiative is not to offer an alternative to commercial cinema, but rather to complete distribution and cinematography, as these types of films that we show do not have an opportunity to watch them in traditional theaters," noting that the period of the Corona pandemic was difficult. The sector is very affected, and it has brought about many changes in the field, but taking the adventure and insisting on being present came from the presence of an audience keen to keep up with what is being presented in the cinema.

She pointed out that the enthusiasm in presenting new programs comes from both sides of the recipient and partners who are aware of the importance of offering alternative cinematic works, as Cinema Akil goes to the most important topics that are presented in various countries.
