The team from the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the topic of "Forest and Shrub Ecosystem and Resource Management" in the second comprehensive scientific expedition on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau recently discovered a rhubarb fir (Abies ernestii var. . salouenensis).

After verification, the height surpassed the Bhutan pine (76.8 meters) in the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Taiwan fir (81-82 meters) in Taiwan, China, setting a new record for the tallest tree in China.

Within one kilometer around the distribution area of the tallest tree in China, there are still 1 78-meter rhubarb fir, 2 77-meter rhubarb firs, and several trees over 70 meters tall.

The discovery of the contiguous giant tree forest reflects the primitiveness and uniqueness of the forest ecosystem in southeastern Tibet.
