Born in a village in southern Mauritania without electricity, Kadio Niang now runs Solar-Ecobat, a start-up specializing in the manufacture of solar lamps.

For someone who spent her childhood and adolescence studying by candlelight or kerosene lamp, becoming an engineer is quickly obvious.

With an electricity access rate of 10% in rural areas compared to 72% in cities, for Kadio Niang, the future of electrification in the Sahel depends on solar energy.

Rare woman in a world of men, she also wants to promote the employment of women in this field.
