Imagine funny connections

To associate a name with a face, the mentalist Fabien Olicard advises to fix his attention on the person, to listen to the first name of the latter, and above all to repeat it at least once.

In this way, by hearing oneself pronounce it, one creates a phonological loop.

Then we form a fun connection in our brain.

For example, for someone called Guillaume, Fabien Olicard associates him with Guillaume Tell, and thus imagines his interlocutor on the telephone.

A trick that also works for retaining faces.

Create a mental palace

"Anyone can use it," says Florian Manicardi, French memory champion and memorization trainer.

To create this mental palace, all you need is "a home", he jokes.

"Take a place you know, and drop images inside that room."

So, if you want to remember a first name, you will visualize the person inside your mental palace.

In this way, to find the first names, you will only have to look for them in your mental palace, at the place where you imagined them.

And Fabien Olicard to add: "In fact, he created a memory: he knows where he put this information, he can go directly into his memories."

Limit new technologies

"The studies are very recent on the subject", concedes Fabien Olicard, insisting on the fact that we do not really know yet.

However, "it could potentially pose problems, in the sense that we break the recovery process", according to him.

"When Florian returns to his mental palace to look for first names, things happen in the strengthening of all the circuits and memories," he says again.

"The fact that we short-circuit by not giving ourselves the time to let information go up, by not giving ourselves the chance to find the information by ourselves, we know that it can't be good ."

He therefore recommends "doing without Google sometimes".
