A few days ago, a local photographer in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province crossed the red cliffs in the Qaidam Basin to record "the most Mars-like place in China".

Located in the Qaidam Basin, Dachaidan, Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province is rich in tourism resources. Among them, the Red Cliff is one of the most typical and peculiar landforms. It was once rated as "the most Mars-like place in China" by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Dachaidan Hongya area in the Qaidam Basin of Qinghai Province has many similarities with the Martian environment, and can be used as the best site for the first simulated Martian base in my country.

However, the research level in this area is very low, and the detailed information of relevant basic materials is extremely scarce. The National Astronomical Observatory jointly launched the "China Mars Analogy Area (Site Selection Area) and the Construction of the Mars Environment Comprehensive Information Data Platform" project. The project will be implemented for three years and will end in December 2020.
