Inflation affects everyone, including artisans.

Many of them have been forced to increase their tariffs since the beginning of 2022. The war in Ukraine has indeed caused an increase in the prices of materials and energy as well as supply problems.

La Capeb, the main employers' union for building craftsmen, commissioned a study of 1,700 craftsmen, relayed by

.

It shows in particular that the prices of materials increased by an average of 18% between the beginning of January and the beginning of April.

An average increase of 5.4% on quotes

“The brutal nature of this increase challenged our craftsmen.

It's a shock, ”assured Jean-Christophe Repon, president of the employers' organization.

This is why many professionals have had to adjust their quotes.

The latter increased on average by 5.4% in the first quarter of 2022. The increase amounts to 11.5% compared to the start of 2021.

In total, 60% of the companies surveyed say they passed on these price increases to their customers in April 2022. Only 45% did so last January, according to Capeb.

The craftsmen most affected are unsurprisingly those who depend the most on material supplies, electricians or carpenters for example.

These professionals are also faced with the volatility of the prices of their materials and “therefore find it difficult to correctly assess their future costs”, explains Christophe Repon.

Be careful, therefore, the quotes are sometimes only valid for fifteen days…
