The alert was given by the fishermen of Concarneau (Finistère).

On Friday, several of them discovered waste at sea, quickly suspecting a liner flying the Portuguese flag of having thrown its garbage cans into the sea. Alerted, the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic deployed air and nautical means to try identify the source of this pollution.

The only ship present in the Glénan archipelago at the time of the events, the liner Ocean Majesty was searched during its stopover in the port of Lorient (Morbihan) by the maritime gendarmerie and the ship security center.

"In the absence of any breach, the liner resumed its journey", specifies the maritime prefecture.

According to

Ouest-France

, the fishermen had reported the presence of a lot of waste in the wake of the 136-meter-long boat, but also cans of cooking oil.

The searches carried out to the south of the protected archipelago did not make it possible to locate any waste.

The surveillance professionals specify that the area is vast and that it is not impossible that the garbage cans could have sunk.

Coming from Calvados, the liner and its 150 passengers were able to resume their cruise towards Saint-Nazaire (Loire-Atlantique).

The investigation is continuing to try to shed light on the presence of these garbage cans at sea.
