  • Health The EMA plans to approve vaccines adapted to omicron and other variants by September

The data presented by the Ministry of Health indicate that we

are at the gates of the seventh wave.

The number of positives rises and falls every week, but what does continue to rise are hospitalizations.

In the last report presented by the Ministry, 7,291 people admitted to medical centers are counted, which

places the rate of admissions

in the last 7 days per 100,000 inhabitants at 14.17.

A figure that has increased almost two points in less than a week and that leaves the

hospital situation at the gates of 'medium risk'

, according to the indicators for risk assessment established by the Ministry of Health.

The hospital situation has worsened

, almost doubling last month's data.

The first report in April placed the hospital occupancy rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 7 days at 7.22.

The regions of

Asturias, with 32.91, and Castilla y León, with 31.56, are the Autonomous Communities with the highest risk

, according to the Health traffic light.

Followed by Galicia (26.41), Cantabria (23.95) and Murcia (21.21), which are at 'medium risk'.

The rest of the Autonomous Communities have a figure of less than two dozen, so they are at 'low risk', according to the Health values.

The Ministry of Health has registered

49,829 new cases of coronavirus

this Tuesday , of which 25,573 have occurred in people over 60 years of age, which brings the total number of infections in Spain to 12,058,888 since the start of the pandemic.

A number lower than the last record, 55,578 new cases last Friday.

Regarding the current average incidence of infections in the last 14 days among those over 60 years of age, Spain

continues to be at 'medium risk'

, in which last month, when accounting for

843.24 positive cases

per 100,000 inhabitants, according to established indicators by the department headed by Carolina Darias.

This figure has increased 30 points compared to the 813.22 reported on Friday.

In the last two weeks, a total of 103,871 positives have been registered in this age group.

As for those

who died from Covid-19, 222 have been reported in this latest report,

less than in Friday's report.

This makes the global death toll from coronavirus in Spain rise to 105,123 people.

Meanwhile, the

positivity rate

, that is, the percentage of people who test positive among all those who take the PCR test in a given time.

This rate

remains at 31.33% from the previous report.

Given this new technicality, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that this percentage be below 5%.

A percentage equal to or less than this figure indicates that the spread of the virus is controlled, as long as the diagnostic measures and strategies are carried out properly and as indicated by the international organization.
