It has been 11 years and 2 months since the Great East Japan Earthquake struck on the 11th.

In Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, the post office in the Toyoma area, where 70% of the buildings were damaged by the tsunami, started operations on the 10th at a newly built store on a hill.

The "Toyoma Post Office" in Iwaki City was completely destroyed by the tsunami caused by the huge earthquake 11 years ago, and about 9 months after the disaster, it has been operating at a temporary store set up in another location in the city. As the land readjustment project progressed and new residential land was developed and the number of residents who rebuilt their homes increased, a new store was built and relocated on a hill in the district.

On the 10th, after the opening ceremony was held by inviting local officials, the counter work started at 9 am, and the locals who visited immediately went through the procedure for saving money and purchasing stamps.

A 71-year-old woman who bought stamps and revenue stamps said, "I had to go to another district to buy it, so it was inconvenient, so I can rely on it to be restarted locally." ..

Yuzo Endo, a local director who arrived on the 10th, said, "I have put a burden on the local people for 11 years, but from now on, I would like to create a post office where anyone can easily drop in."

According to Japan Post, all three post offices in Iwaki City, which were damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, have now resumed operations in their original districts, but there are still 17 post offices in Fukushima Prefecture due to the tsunami and the nuclear accident. It remains closed.
