The Friends of Cancer Patients Association, which is concerned with spreading and promoting awareness of breast cancer and the importance of early detection, recently held a meeting with a high-level delegation from the United Nations Population Fund.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Cancer Patients Association, Sawsan Jaafar, the Director of Strategic Partnerships in the Communication and Partnerships Section at the United Nations Population Fund at Headquarters in New York, Mariarosa Cotillo, the Liaison and Partnerships Officer in the Fund, Dhafra Al-Shawi, and the Partnerships Officer at the United Nations Population Fund in the State of Qatar. The meeting came within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed by the association with the regional office of the United Nations Population Fund for Arab States in 2020 to spread cancer awareness with a focus on cervical cancer in the Arab region.

The meeting dealt with cooperation mechanisms aimed at supporting efforts to spread awareness and knowledge about cervical cancer through the global strategic partnership program with the Fund, in line with the needs of communities in the UAE and the Arab region, and the Society's preparations to organize the third session of the Forum against Cervical Cancer in January 2023.

The members of the Fund’s delegation spoke about the initiatives implemented by the Fund at the global level to enhance health care opportunities for women and girls. They reviewed the strategic plan and the advocacy program for young women with the Friends of Cancer Patients Association to discuss ways to provide the opportunity for young women to contribute to raising community awareness about cervical cancer. They also reviewed the details of the program Global Women's Empowerment he launched to support women in the workplace.

The meeting witnessed highlighting the role of the association in empowering individuals and societies by spreading awareness and health education and its essential role in combating human papillomavirus and cervical cancer in the region by organizing two sessions of the cervical cancer control forum, and joint discussions are scheduled to continue through a meeting With the technical team of the United Nations Population Fund to be held later to develop a joint work plan between the two sides.

Sawsan Jaafar addressed the role that the Friends of Cancer Patients Association plays in supporting national and regional strategies to combat cervical cancer, noting the association's preventive role in strengthening its educational awareness programs and initiatives during the Corona pandemic to emphasize the importance of early detection and vaccination.

She added: "Under the directives of the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and with her direct support, the association was able to provide full health care to patients and provide them with material and moral support during the treatment journey, and played a key role in spreading awareness of the importance of early detection of The association’s efforts are in line with the comprehensive and integrated directions of the UAE government in providing sustainable programs to combat human papillomavirus and cervical cancer.”
