Despite a gloomy, not to say rotten, summer, Brittany had seen its tourist activity recover last year with 90 million tourist nights recorded in 2021. A figure up 15% compared to 2020 but which nevertheless remains almost 10% lower than the total number of overnight stays recorded in 2019, the year before Covid.

While the 2022 season has been launched since the Easter holidays, the Regional Tourism Committee (CRT) has just unveiled the results of a study on the frequentation of sites and leisure facilities last year in Brittany.

According to the results of this survey, to which 216 structures responded, 6.9 million visitors visited these sites and structures in 2021. A result much higher than that of 2020 (+32%) but which does not yet catch up with the 2019 level (-25%).

"The majority of the structures could not open until May 19, 2021 due to the third confinement in April", underlines the CRT, also recalling that "binding health regulations" weighed all year.

As a result, attendance was heavily concentrated in the summer period with 55% of entries taking place between July and August, compared to 44% in 2019.

Two aquariums at the top of the ranking

In the ranking of the most visited “built” sites last year, there are two aquariums with Océanopolis in Brest which comes first (285,000 paid admissions) ahead of that of Saint-Malo (272,200).

The animal and botanical park of Branféré in Morbihan completes the podium (197,000), ahead of the recreation park La récré des trois curés near Brest (197,000) by a short head.

Then come the castle of Fort La Latte, the Museum of Fine Arts in Rennes, the Domaine de Trévarez in Finistère, the Bourbansais zoological park between Rennes and Saint-Malo, the Cap-Fréhel lighthouse and finally the City of sailing Eric Tabarly in Lorient.
