"I remember that when I came to Guilin from Vietnam's hometown of Binh Duong to study in 1995, the traffic was very inconvenient. I had to take a car to Ho Chi Minh City Airport, transfer to Hanoi to rest for one night, and then take a bus through Friendship Pass the next day to stay in Nanning. In the evening, we will continue to take the train to Guilin on the third day.” Wu Huijun, a Vietnamese teacher at Guangxi Normal University, was deeply impressed by the way of studying abroad.

Guangxi Normal University and Vietnam Ho Chi Minh City Normal University established a cooperative relationship in 1995, and exchanged teachers and students to teach and study.

Wu Huijun is one of the first Vietnamese students to study in Guangxi.

In the first few years of her arrival in China, Wu Huijun got a tourist visa and had to return to Vietnam once for a maximum of six months.

In order to go home and obtain a new tourist visa, Wu Huijun had to run a "marathon" every six months.

"Since 2000, traffic has gradually developed. We took a bus from Guilin to Guangzhou and flew directly to Ho Chi Minh City, and we could go home in a day." Wu Huijun said.

In 1997, Wu Huijun and Guangxi Normal University teacher Luo Mingdi became a Sino-Vietnamese husband and wife, and later had a lovely daughter.

Wu Huijun said that she often puts Vietnamese traditional cold dishes, spring rolls, sugar water and other foods on the table during festivals and her daughter's birthday, and her children are very curious about Vietnamese food.

So far, Wu Huijun often cooks some simple Chinese food and Vietnamese snacks at home to share with her family.

The story of Wu Huijun coming to China to study and settle in Guilin is a microcosm of the transnational teacher-student relationship between Guangxi Normal University and Vietnamese students.

Near the "Vietnamese School Memorial Hall" at Yucai Campus of Guangxi Normal University, a osmanthus tree donated by former Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan of the Vietnamese government, and a boulder under the tree engraved with "The tree of friendship between the Chinese and Vietnamese people!" A period of Sino-Vietnamese friendship in the past years.

Guilin Yucai School is the predecessor of Guangxi Normal University Yucai Campus.

From the 1950s to the 1970s, due to the arduous anti-France and Anti-American wars being waged by the Vietnamese people, in 1951, with the help of the Chinese government, Vietnam moved a group of schools to Guangxi to run schools. The main Chinese language training school.

Over the past 20 years, more than 14,000 Vietnamese students have returned home after their studies and made their own contributions to local development.

In 2010, Guangxi Normal University established the Vietnam School Memorial Hall on the basis of the old school building of Yucai in Guilin.

Walking in from the west gate of Yucai Campus of Guangxi Normal University, not far away is the Vietnam School Memorial Hall.

The yellowed photos and the certificates laid out in the museum quietly show the scene of Vietnamese students living and studying here more than half a century ago.

Ruan Zhongyuan, the former director of the Memorial Hall of the Vietnam School of Guangxi Normal University, stopped in front of a booth and introduced the well-preserved transcripts, resumes, textbooks and other items: "This is a textbook and other objects donated by Zheng Dinghou, a Vietnamese alumnus who studied at Guilin Yucai School. He said that if these things are kept at home, they may be discarded after a hundred years and donated to the memorial hall, so that everyone can remember the history of Sino-Vietnamese friendship, and they will be more meaningful.”

After more than ten years of retirement, Ruan Zhongyuan is still keen and concerned about the organization of the memorial hall's materials, and receives some alumni and other visitors.

After entering the 1990s, groups of Vietnamese youths followed the footsteps of their parents to study at Guangxi Normal University.

Chen Guoyao, former associate professor of the School of Physical Education of Guangxi Normal University, recalled that during his more than 20 years of teaching at the school, he taught many Vietnamese students who came to Guilin for further study.

"At that time, a Vietnamese student named Duan Yingjun studied massage with me and treated sports injuries very hard. Now he is the coach of the Ho Chi Minh City football team in Vietnam and a sports rehabilitation doctor, and he still calls me from time to time." Chen Guoyao said.

In the past 20 years, when Chen Guoyao went to the Vietnam Sports Academy and Sports Hospital in Hanoi, Vietnam to give lectures and participate in the treatment, Duan Yingjun always took time to visit the teacher at night, and talked about the teacher-student relationship for a long night.

Chen Guoyao said with a smile that when he was teaching, Vietnamese students would gather at his home in Guilin in batches every holiday or weekend. The students made Vietnamese spring rolls, and he made Guilin rice noodles. Everyone shared food and communicated with each other.

Under the clear sky, the Yucai Campus of Guangxi Normal University was green.

In this green campus, 70% of the trees are planted by students from China and Vietnam, and the friendship between China and Vietnam is growing like these trees.
