The Bahamas are facing an unexplained case: three American tourists died in the Caribbean country on Friday.

Three US citizens have been found dead at a luxury resort on the island of Exuma.

Two men and one woman were among the victims, CNN said.

Another woman, also an American, was injured and flown to a hospital in the capital, Nassau.

Her husband, with whom she wanted to celebrate her anniversary in the vacation paradise, died.

The woman is reported to have woken up in the morning with her legs and arms swollen and unable to move.

She is said to have been lying on the ground screaming for help.

Another victim was found in the bathroom, according to media reports.

The body was leaning against the wall.

Now the police are investigating.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas is currently not assuming an intentional act.

A pathologist would perform an autopsy and try to determine the cause of death, Chester Cooper said on Sunday.

No marks of violence or injuries were found on the bodies.

However, the victims are said to have suffered convulsions beforehand.

An official statement said: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the affected families."

The tourists had previously gone to a hospital with nausea and dizziness and had themselves examined, Health Secretary Michael Darville said.

According to the Ministry of Health, there is no danger to the other holiday guests in the complex.

"We believe this was an isolated incident in a particular location," Secretary Darville said.

The Bahamas is an archipelago of more than 700 islands.

Meanwhile, police are investigating a theory that the victims may have been killed by toxic coolant from the air conditioner.

A room neighbor of the victims provided a clue via social networks.

He wrote that the air conditioner would have woken him up several times even in the next room when it came on.

He indicated poisoning.

According to experts, however, coolants pose a rather low risk: they would have to escape in high doses to become dangerous.
