This summer, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism conducted a demonstration experiment using a small coin-sized sensor that can grasp the inundation situation in real time in order to promptly confirm the flooding of the river due to heavy rain and to use it for quick restoration work. , It was decided to verify the effect.

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, it is difficult to identify the inundated area at night during heavy rains, and it is not possible to properly close dangerous roads. There are issues such as this.

For this reason, we decided to install a sensor slightly larger than a 500-yen coin with a length of 4 cm and a width of 3 cm on embankments, buildings, roads, etc. in areas where inundation is expected, and conduct a demonstration experiment to grasp the inundation situation in real time. became.

The sensor has a simple structure in which radio waves are interrupted when it is submerged in water, and it is cheaper than a water level gauge, and since multiple sensors can be installed, it is expected that it will be possible to grasp the presence or absence of inundation at night or in places without a water level gauge. is.

Experiments will begin this summer in five locations: Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, Kakogawa City, Hyogo Prefecture, Minamiawaji City, Minami Town, Tokushima Prefecture, and Kanzaki City, Saga Prefecture. We will verify the effect, such as how much it was connected to the road closure.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will consider whether maintenance is possible nationwide based on the experimental results.
