The coast of Oarai Town, Ibaraki Prefecture, is crowded with many families visiting for clamming during the Golden Week holidays.

Since clams and surf clams can be found on the coast of Oarai Town, many families come to clamming every year during the Golden Week holidays.

This was the first long holiday in three years with no restrictions on activities, and the 1.2-kilometer sandy beach where clamming was possible was crowded with people looking for shellfish.

According to Oarai Town, the number of people on the Golden Week holidays is higher than three years before the spread of the infection.

A 31-year-old woman from Tochigi Prefecture said, "I thought there were many people, but I'm a little relieved because it's outdoors. I'm enjoying it while being careful about corona infection."

A 48-year-old woman from Tokyo said, "I haven't been to the sea for the past two years, so I've been enjoying it for the first time in a while. I want to eat delicious shellfish."
