The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has revealed that four new children under the age of 16 were hospitalized with similar symptoms in Japan for acute hepatitis of unknown cause, which has been reported one after another mainly in young children in Europe and the United States.


Seven patients have been confirmed to have the possibility of acute hepatitis of unknown cause in Japan.

According to the WHO = World Health Organization, at least 169 cases of unexplained acute hepatitis have been reported in 12 countries, including the United Kingdom and the United States, mainly for children under the age of 10, and one of them has died.



According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, four new children under the age of 16 were diagnosed with acute hepatitis of unknown cause and were hospitalized according to a report from the local government.



The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare announced on the 25th of last month that a patient with unexplained inferior acute hepatitis was confirmed for the first time in Japan, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to seven.



The detailed residence, age, and relevance of the seven people are not disclosed.



According to WHO, general hepatitis virus has not been detected in patients reported overseas, but adenovirus that causes diarrhea and vomiting has been detected in more than 40% of patients.



Adenovirus was detected in 1 of the 7 cases reported in Japan so far, but the type is different from the one mainly reported overseas.



The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare is investigating the association with hepatitis and is still asking local governments to report any patients with similar symptoms.
