Pete "Maverick" Mitchell is about to return to the big screen and for Tom Cruise, his interpreter, this is an important moment.

As

Top Gun: Maverick

comes out at the end of the month, the actor is in full promo.

And on the red carpet for the grand premiere of this highly anticipated sequel, the star (arrived at the event by helicopter, of course…) made a few confessions about the history of the franchise.

Tom Cruise has notably revealed that it was he who had done everything for Val Kilmer to be part of the project.

“In the first one, I really fought for him to be in the film, because he's a great actor and I wanted him to play this character.

I said to director Tony Scott, "You have to go after this guy!"

I said (to Val Kilmer): "Val, you have to do this movie. You're going to be amazing".

That's the kind of talent he has,” he told ET.

Combative

It's no longer a secret: Val Kilmer, despite his illness, is also present in this sequel.

And then again, Tom Cruise is happy to have insisted that he be part of the adventure.

The two superstars notably share a scene that seems particularly poignant.

“You see this scene and it's very special.

It's just very special.

He is magnificent, ”concluded the actor.
