Doctor Denis Mukwege was named Honorary Citizen of the City of Bayonne (Pyrénées-Atlantiques) this Wednesday.

An official ceremony took place in the large living room of the town hall, specifies



The doctor was awarded the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize for the care provided to women victims of genital mutilation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The 67-year-old gynecologist also received the Sakharov Prize in 2014, awarded by the European Parliament to people working for freedom.

The Francophone Institute for Justice and Democracy Louis-Joinet organized the visit to Bayonne of Denis Mukwege.

An honorary doctorate

on the Bayonne site of the University of Pau and Pays de l'Adour this Thursday, the town indicated on its website.
