But where did the rain go in Brittany?

So often mocked for its weather, the region has hardly seen a drop of rain in six months.

Like everywhere in the territory, this rainfall deficit is worrying with the fear of a great drought this summer.

For a week, the department of Ille-et-Vilaine has been placed in a state of vigilance.

Around Rennes, groundwater levels are indeed low, even very low in some places.

20 mm only in April in the rain gauge of #BelleÎle.

The monthly standard is 50 mm, which brings the deficit to 60% in April and 54% in 2022.

“The 2020-2021 winter season was rather dry with a lack of rainfall, underlines the prefecture.

Despite a month of October characterized by significant accumulations of precipitation, the following months were mainly marked by a rainfall deficit until April.

As a result, groundwater recharge came late and was short-lived.

The levels of the Meu and Couesnon rivers are also worrying and have crossed the vigilance threshold in some places.

No improvement in the next few days

A situation that should not improve in the coming days with generally sunny days and temperatures that will rise from this weekend.

"The weather forecasts do not allow us to foresee a lasting improvement in the water situation in the department", indicates the prefecture.

In this context, the prefect invites individuals, manufacturers, farmers and communities to “voluntarily reduce” their water consumption.
