The Russian war of aggression in Ukraine moves the German population.

This is also shown by the development of donations, as the German Donations Council announced on Tuesday.

According to this, the Germans donated 912 million euros in March, the first full month of the war alone.

In 2021 it was 347 million euros in the same period.

According to the German Donations Council, the increase can clearly be attributed to the Ukraine war, because it is almost entirely attributable to emergency and disaster relief.

595 million euros were donated to this area, compared to just 42 million euros in the same period of the previous year.

This corresponds to an increase of 1329 percent.

"The German Society shows a breathtaking demonstration of solidarity towards the people affected by the war," said Max Mälzer, Managing Director of the German Donations Council.

After two difficult years - with Corona, flood disaster and inflation as the three main factors - the result is particularly astonishing.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all donors," said Mälzer.
