- It is more difficult to get hold of journalists now and it is becoming more and more alarming every year, says Elsa Falk, communications manager at Bonnier News.

Bonnier News is a media group with titles such as Dagens Nyheter, Expressen and Dagens industri.

For several years, they have found it increasingly difficult to recruit qualified substitutes and therefore call for an industry meeting to get a common picture of the problem and to find solutions.

- We have seen that there is a decrease with substitutes, especially around summer recruitment.

But also in general, all year round, it is more difficult to get hold of journalists now.

This applies above all out in the country, but also in Stockholm, says Elsa Falk.

Has a responsibility for the situation

Among those invited are, among others, media actors, educational institutions, the journalists' union and the employment service.

- Free journalism and free speech have probably never been more important than now.

At the same time, with each passing year, there are fewer and fewer graduated, qualified journalists and that is what we have to change, says Elsa Falk.

Many journalists have precarious working conditions and it is difficult to get a permanent job.

How do you think this will affect the availability of journalists?

- I think it can be a lot.

I think there are many parts that together make us have the situation we have today, says Elsa Falk.

How do you think about Bonnier News and other media companies' responsibility for fewer substitutes?

- We have a great responsibility in that and that is a significant reason why we have taken the initiative for this meeting.
