Should NATO be enlarged?

If Finland joined, the land borders between the NATO countries and Russia would suddenly double, reaching almost 2,600 kilometres.

The question was revived by the Russian invasion and the possible integration of Ukraine into the Alliance.

In recent weeks two other countries have expressed their wish to join NATO: Sweden and Finland.

Things are moving very quickly concerning Helsinki, which has launched the debate in Parliament with the aim of announcing a candidacy at the next NATO summit at the end of June.
