A few weeks after 75 children had been contaminated by the E.coli bacterium (via a batch of Buitoni frozen pizzas), the devastation that this colibacillus can cause remains poorly known: potentially fatal, E.coli can cause kidney failure, lesions irreversible to the liver, the lungs... or the brain, as was unfortunately the case for the little Giulia.

Heavy after-effects… but the family remains hopeful

Her mother explains that the 4 and a half year old girl "contracted E.coli by eating a piece of raw milk cheese when she was 18 months old".

Suffering from a hemolytic and uraemic syndrome, HUS, she is now more than 80% disabled and her life has changed: “She no longer moved, no longer spoke, she lost her sight, specifies her mother.

The doctors told us that Giulia had serious neurological sequelae and that we did not know how it was going to evolve.

If she has since made some motor progress thanks to rehabilitation, Giulia “will never again be the little girl she was before, laments her mother.

We have the hope that she speaks again, that she walks, that she recovers as many things as possible... but we are angry with the factory that made the cheese, with the store that sold it and with the doctor at the hospital who didn't take things seriously at first".
