The International Station conducts a maneuver to avoid collision with space debris

The International Space Station is performing an unplanned maneuver Saturday to avoid collision with debris in space.

The Russian space agency "Roskosmos" said that "the engines of the Progress MS-18 spacecraft will be turned on at 4:30 pm Moscow time (1330 GMT), and the cargo ship is docked at the station."

This will cause the International Space Station to accelerate at a rate of one meter per second and move it up by 1.8 kilometers.

After making this correction, the station will fly at an altitude of 414 kilometers above Earth, according to the "Roscosmos" agency.

The maximum height of the station is just over 438 km.

Debris is a growing problem for space travel.

The International Space Station regularly needs to avoid flying objects, as a collision with it could destroy it.
