Five years after he was lost, he never returned to his owner on board a "helicopter"!

A Scottish cat owner has recovered his long-lost pet after it was found inside a shipping container on an oil rig in the North Sea, the Scottish Animal Charity said.

The association noted that the one-eyed black cat was found in an oil rig off Peterhead Harbor on the coast of Aberdeenshire, north-east Scotland.

The cat was returned by helicopter a day after platform workers contacted the charity.

"We don't know how the cat got to the oil rig, but we came to the airstrip this morning to pick it up," said Amy Findlay, a rescue officer.

It turned out that the cat lived homeless for five years around the Peterhead port area, and was fed by staff working in a nearby prison and known as "One-Eyed Joe".

It appears most likely that he somehow slipped into a shipping container docked at the port and headed to the oil rig.

When a veterinarian examined him, it was found that the homeless cat had an owner waiting for him to return.

The charity explained that it was found that "the cat's real name is Dexter and he has been missing for five years!"

The association was able to contact its owner and return the cat to him.

"We are very happy that the cat was well taken care of when it was missing, but we are even more happy that we were able to return it to its owner thanks to the recent chips in place," she said.
