Jinyang Ancient City Site is located in Jinyuan Town, Jinyuan District, Taiyuan City, covering an area of more than 20 square kilometers. It was built in the Eastern Zhou Dynasty and was abandoned in the early Northern Song Dynasty.

In 2021, during the archaeological excavation of the Jinyang ancient city site archaeological team, a porcelain kiln site was discovered.

The site is located in the southern part of the palace area from the Northern Dynasties to the Tang Dynasty. This is the first porcelain kiln site discovered since the archaeological work of the ancient city of Jinyang.

In the excavation area of the kiln site, 3 porcelain kiln remains, 9 ash pits and nearly 10,000 pieces of porcelain have been cleared.

More than 1,600 pieces of kiln furniture were unearthed, and the unearthed porcelain pieces were mainly celadon and white porcelain, as well as 2 plain-bodied porcelain sculptures.

The age of this kiln is roughly from the Sui to the early Tang Dynasty. It is the earliest kiln site discovered in Shanxi, which fills the gap of related research and is of great significance in the study of ancient Chinese ceramics.
