• Apothecary García 'Bye-bye' indoor mask... Is it a good idea to remove it right now?

  • Q&A End of indoor masks: how, when and where we will wear them from April 20

The

Official State

Gazette (

BOE

) publishes this Wednesday the royal decree by which the mandatory use of a mask indoors is eliminated and thus enters into force, since on this occasion it does so from the same day of its publication and not the next, as usual.

The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, alluded yesterday to the "very high vaccination coverage" in

Spain

and the positive epidemiological evolution of Covid-19 to justify the elimination of the mandatory use of a

mask

indoors, although she called for its "responsible use", especially when it affects vulnerable people.

In addition, its use will continue to be mandatory in healthcare areas, such as health centers, hospitals, blood transfusion centers and pharmacies, both for workers and visitors, as well as in the case of people admitted who share common spaces, to protect vulnerable people.

They will also have to be used in social health centers.

"Its use is not mandatory for people who live in residences because they are their homes, but workers and visitors must use them," the minister clarified.

In the same way, "the use of a mask will be mandatory in all public transport" although not on the platforms and passenger stations.

Yes, it will be necessary to wear a mask inside trains, buses, planes and even on ships when the distance of one and a half meters cannot be maintained.

Work environment

Regarding the work environment,

Carolina Darias

stressed that "masks will not be mandatory. However, those responsible for occupational risk prevention and in accordance with the corresponding risk assessment of the job could establish the appropriate preventive measures that they deem convenient".

The same will not happen in the educational field, where "it will not be used in any case. They were no longer used in recess and now the same will happen in all areas of educational centers," said Darias.

Likewise, there will be no obligation to wear masks in restaurants, shops, bars, sports facilities, theaters or cinemas.

"This decision", remarked Darias, "has been possible thanks to the high vaccination coverage and the improvement of the epidemiological indicators", although he appealed to the responsibility to protect the most vulnerable.
