The Israeli military said in a statement in the early hours of April 18 that it launched a series of airstrikes in southern Gaza on the same day, targeting a "weapons manufacturing base" of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

There were no casualties in the attack.

Israel said it intercepted a Hamas rocket fired from Gaza on the 17th.

It was the first time in recent months that Hamas had fired rockets into Israel.

In response, a Hamas spokesman said the Israeli airstrikes only hit "open spaces".
