He caused a "massive" disaster to disguise his theft

A San Jose man faces several charges, including starting a massive fire that nearly turned into a disaster, at the warehouse of his local Home Depot earlier this month, according to (CNN).

The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office announced, in a press release, that Dylan Jaycruz-Gog, 27, has been charged with arson, seven counts of grand larceny and three counts of petty theft, according to Complex.

A police statement said the man set off a fire alarm at a warehouse, Home Depot, in San Jose while he was stealing from stores to act as a distraction from his crime.

But the fire ended up destroying the entire 98,827-square-foot store, causing an estimated $17 million in inventory loss.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

"Evidence shows that the suspect - who earlier that day stole items from a nearby Bass Pro Shop - set fire to the Home Depot and attempted to leave the store with a cart containing tools," District Attorney Jeff Rosen told ABC 7. stolen.”

The National Weather Service's office in San Francisco confirmed that the fire was so massive that its heat signature could be detected from space.

It is reported that Gough, who is scheduled to appear in court on June 1, is being held without bail in the Santa Clara County Jail.
