Adelaide silk is known as one of the "Three Treasures of Hetian". It is a native silk that women in southern Xinjiang like to use to make clothing. Jiya Township, Hotan City is one of the main producing areas of Adelaide silk.
Adelais means tie-dye, which is the ancient tie-dyeing process.
In this process, according to the requirements of the pattern, the warp yarns are tied and dyed in layers, and then the dyed warp yarns are wound around the weaving shaft according to the original structure of the pattern, and finally woven into a complete silk cloth.
During the dyeing process, Adelais silk is moistened by the dye solution, and has a naturally formed color halo, which is staggered, scattered and not messy.
This process of first dyeing and then weaving not only increases the layering of the pattern and the transition of colors, but also forms the characteristics of the changing patterns of Adelais silk.
