• A white march will take place this Saturday in Rennes in tribute to Marie, victim of a feminicide in front of her two children.

  • While the husband and main suspect had already been convicted of domestic violence, the organizers are also asking for the opening in Rennes of a structure capable of responding to this type of problem.

“For Mary, and for all the others, we continue to fight”.

This Saturday, April 23, a white march is organized at 5 p.m. on the Kennedy slab, in Rennes.

It is here, in the heart of the Villejean district, that the lifeless body of Marie was discovered on Tuesday April 12, 2022. Aged 45, this mother would have been strangled by her husband in the presence of two of their daughters, 8 and 9 years old.

The latter were first hospitalized, before being the subject of a provisional placement order.

A repeat offender, the husband had already been sentenced to prison for acts of domestic violence and was prohibited from contacting the victim.

He admitted the facts and was imprisoned.

Organized by the We All 35 collective and the Kuné association to which Marie belonged, the white march should "honor her memory and support those close to Marie".

But it will also carry a protest message: “How many murders will it take to get things moving in Rennes?

“, asks the collective.

The latter adds that "for a long time, with feminist organizations, we have been asking for the opening in Rennes of a women's center capable of responding very precisely to this type of situation".

Born in Congo where she was married, Marie had moved to France with her husband in 2012. The following year, she had filed a first complaint for domestic violence, closed without further action.

In 2019, she again filed a complaint against her husband after a very violent episode.

The former judoka had hit her several times, especially in the face.

He had been sentenced to a year and a half in prison, eight months of which was suspended with probation for two years.

He was prohibited from contacting the victim.

Incarcerated at the Rennes-Vezin penitentiary center between December 16, 2019 and July 8, 2020. He has since been followed by the probation and integration service as part of a probationary stay which was to end on July 8.
