Fujairah Forum discusses its role in promoting authenticity

The activities of the Fujairah Ramadan Forum in its seventh session were launched yesterday, with a symposium on "Personal Museums and their Role in Preserving Heritage", which was co-organized by the Al-Bidiyah Society for Culture and Arts and Al-Rakh Publishing Corporation.

The symposium, which was organized to celebrate the World Heritage Day and hosted by the Ali Salem Al-Dhanhani Majlis in Dibba Al-Fujairah, was attended by: Vice-President of the Urban Heritage Society, Engineer Ahmed Mahmoud Al Haram, the owner of the Mohammed bin Zayed Heritage Village, Ahmed bin Qaydouh Al Shehhi, and the owner of the Museum of Archaeological Collections, the researcher. Rashid Ali Al-Nahm, and researcher Ali Salem Al-Dhanhani, owner of a personal museum.

He opened the symposium, which was moderated by heritage researcher Khaled Al-Handasi, by talking about the importance of personal museums that citizens set up in their homes and councils as a living tool in preserving the cultural heritage in the country and strengthening national identity among members of society, pointing to the importance of activating the role of state institutions in supporting Personal museums to achieve communication between the past and the present, and to consolidate the cultural and heritage identity of future generations.

During the symposium, which was attended by the Deputy Speaker of the Arab Parliament, Member of the Federal National Council, Muhammad Ahmed Al Yamahi, the Forum’s Chairman and President of the Rakh Foundation, Khaled Al Dhanhani, and a number of officials, researchers and those interested in heritage, Al Haram praised the experience of establishing private museums in the Emirates whose owners enjoy a spirit of creativity. He called on the generations of tomorrow to integrate heritage into their future innovations, in order to protect and preserve the heritage of the UAE.

He reviewed the role of the International Council of Museums, which is concerned with government and private museums in the country, noting that the ICOM Council includes 150,000 members around the world, and 122 national committees, pointing out that the UAE branch was established in 2012 and plays a major role in preserving heritage. 110 private museums within the UAE, and Dubai will be the first city in the Middle East and North Africa to have the honor of organizing the prestigious ICOM 2025 conference since its founding in 1946.

For his part, Ali Salem Al-Dhanhani reviewed his experience in collecting a large number of old collectibles in his home, which simulate previous periods of time for parents and grandparents, in addition to the distinction of his personal museum in the presence of models of old houses built of gravel and palm fronds that were used in the past.

For his part, Ahmed bin Qaydouh Al Shehhi shed light on the Mohammed bin Zayed Heritage Village, which was characterized by a number of archaeological collectibles, as well as the diversity of heritage environments in the village such as wild, sea or mountainous, pointing out that the story of building the heritage village came from ideas after a meeting held Al Shihouh Heritage Society at its headquarters in Abu Dhabi, and he participated in it as a member of the Society. The heritage village that was established in Ras Al Khaimah includes many ancient innovations.

While Rashid Al-Nahm, who resides in the Kalba region, reviewed his experience in his private museum, which includes ancient holdings, numbering about 2,500 pieces, indicating that collecting antiques for him is a hobby and a message, as he preserves through what he collects of archaeological holdings on ancient things and clings to Heritage, pointing out that all the pieces he owns express the past of the ancestors, and the authenticity of the Emirati heritage.

Chairman of the Fujairah Ramadan Forum and Chairman of the Al-Rakh Foundation, Khalid Al-Dhanhani, stressed the importance of the role of private museums in raising awareness and enhancing belonging to the authentic Emirati heritage among new generations, pointing to the importance of supporting and sponsoring the efforts of the owners of personal museums and developing a strategy to collect their efforts and exploits, in order to serve the state’s goals in Preserving and protecting the national heritage.

At the end of the symposium, Muhammad Al Yamahi and Khaled Al Dhanhani honored the symposium participants, in appreciation of their efforts and outstanding contributions to the protection and preservation of heritage.
