In order to prevent a pop-out accident at an intersection with a blind spot, a demonstration experiment of a new device that alerts the driver by detecting pedestrians in advance with sensors installed on utility poles has started in Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture.

This demonstration experiment is being conducted jointly by 12 research teams, including a power transmission company that owns utility poles and a sensor manufacturer, at an intersection in Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture, from the 19th to the 2nd.

Sensors and cameras equipped with AI that can identify approaching cars and pedestrians are installed on utility poles at intersections.

The information collected by the sensors is displayed on the electric bulletin board installed at the intersection, and is also transmitted by voice to the car loaded with a dedicated receiver.

On the 19th, an experiment was conducted using a fixed-route bus, and when the bus approached the intersection, an alarm sound indicating that a pedestrian was approaching from the blind spot of the intersection and a voice saying "Please slow down" were heard in the car. It was flowing.

There are issues such as cost for practical use, but Takehiko Ashiya, the manager of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc., who participates in this demonstration experiment, said, "We can also use the latest technology to reduce tragic accidents. It is necessary. I would like to continue research toward practical use. "
