Qujing, Yunnan, known as the "kingdom of ancient fish" and "the birthplace of human ancestors 400 million years ago", is the world's most famous treasure trove of vertebrate fossils from the Early Devonian (about 419 million to 407 million years ago). It is also a "holy place" for vertebrate paleontologists, especially paleoichthyologists, to conduct field scientific expeditions, discover and study fossils.

The research team of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Institute of Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences) recently discovered a new genus of fossils of the true armored fish here.

A total of 5 fossil specimens have been collected from the "Xinding" of the "Kingdom of Ancient Fish". It is the first fossil record of true armored fish discovered in the main output layer of the Xitun vertebrate group in Qujing. Published online in the professional academic journal "Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology".

On April 18, the corresponding author of the paper, researcher Zhao Wenjin of the Institute of Paleo-Spine, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the first author of the paper, Sun Haoran, a master student jointly trained by the Institute of Geology and Geophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Paleo-Spine of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one of the co-authors of the paper, Associate Professor Li Qiang of Qujing Normal University , respectively, in Beijing and Qujing, Yunnan, where the fossils of the "Kingdom of Ancient Fish" were found to be interviewed by reporters from China News Agency, explaining and introducing the fossil discoveries and research results of "Shuoda Xitun fish".
