University students held a mock trial at a university in Tokyo to think about Russia's military invasion of Ukraine from the perspective of international law.

This mock trial was held on the 17th by a group of students from Waseda University studying international law.

Ukraine has filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice for no good reason for the military invasion, which last month issued a tentative order to Russia to immediately cease military action.

The mock trial was conducted with the students thinking about their claims, referring to this case.

At the trial, a student playing the role of Ukraine said, "Russia is exercising the right of collective self-defense against the attacks of the pro-Russian" Donetsk People's Republic "and" Lugansk People's Republic "in eastern Ukraine. I argue, but they are not affiliated with the United Nations and have no basis in international law for the right of collective self-defense. "

Meanwhile, a Russian student claimed that the International Court of Justice had no jurisdiction over the proceedings in the first place.

A college student who listened to the trial said, "I would like to think logically rather than emotionally about how we can solve this problem and build our own opinion."

Reiko Kawai, Deputy Secretary-General of the Waseda University International Law Study Group, said, "The perspective of international law is important for logically judging what is wrong and why. I want you to think about how to face each other. "
