- Strangely enough, this book has veiled my real mother so that I no longer recognize her.

My memories of my real mother have become fiction and I do not remember much, says Christian Kracht.

Since his debut novel "Faserland" (1995), Christian Kracht has dealt with topics such as German post-war debt and European imperialism.

In the sequel "Eurotrash", the reader gets to follow an author of the same name and his alcoholic and dying mother on a taxi journey, where the goal is to get rid of her entire fortune - based on the Swiss arms trade.

Kracht has described the book as a farewell to her mother, and also believes that the work with it has made her memories loosen up.

- She comes to me in my dreams, I know her and her scent, but if I try to think of her when I'm awake ... then she's gone.

And maybe that's exactly what literature can do: create something out of nothing, out of death, says Christian Kracht.
