Sean Penn is still madly in love with his ex-wife

Sean Penn is still very much in love with his ex-wife Leila George.

Having been dating since 2016, the

star and the actress decided to wed in July 2020. But their union lasted just over a year, with the 30-year-old actress filing for divorce in last October.

And now that the procedure is finalized, Sean Penn only has his eyes to cry.

Still in love with his ex, the 61-year-old actor admits to having ruined his marriage.

“I ruined our marriage.

Technically we were married for a year, but for five years I was a very negligent guy,” he told

before opening up about his drinking and sleeping pills.

“I allowed myself to think that I had more important things to do elsewhere, including the fact of having been totally depressed and fueled by alcohol and Ambien from 11 a.m., just watching the news, what Trump was doing, and despairing,” Sean Penn continued.

“Seeing that her new husband had decided that 10:30 a.m. was a good time to slap on a double vodka tonic and Ambien and say, 'Good morning, sweetie.

I'm going to go collapse for a few hours and run away from all this sh*t”.

And it turned out that women don't like that,” he conceded.

Today, Sean Penn hopes that he will be able to pick up the pieces with Leila George, whom he still considers his “best friend”.

But for now, the actor is particularly involved in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Present in Ukraine at the dawn of the Russian invasion before fleeing to Poland, he recently admitted that he planned to return to the country to take up arms.
