Including turtles, lizards and snakes.. an American accused of freezing 183 dead animals in the refrigerator

In a shocking story, an Arizona man froze 183 dead animals in the freezer, some of which appeared to be alive.

While facing charges of cruelty to animals.

In detail, Mojave County deputies and animal control officers found the animals in a garage freezer on April 3 after a woman reported that Michael Patrick Torland, 43, had not returned the snakes that had lent him to breed, the sheriff's office said in a statement Thursday.

The frozen animals also include dogs, turtles, lizards, birds, snakes, mice, rats and rabbits, according to the statement, which indicated that "many animals appear to have been frozen alive due to the position of their bodies."

It is noteworthy that the garage freezer was in the house Torland previously lived in in Golden Valley, a rural apartment complex in far western Arizona.

The homeowner reportedly discovered the frozen animals while cleaning up after Torland and his wife evacuated the property.

The owner then called the woman, who reported to the police chief's office.

In addition, Torland was arrested at home Wednesday when he told lawmakers that he had returned home.

"When interviewed, Torland eventually admitted to putting some of the animals in the freezer while they were still alive," the statement read.

Court records did not mention a lawyer who could comment on behalf of Torland, who was arrested on 94 counts of animal cruelty.
