It is a journey through space and time.

From the Atocha station to Alcalá de Henares, and from 2022 to the Golden Age. Tomorrow the Cervantes Train rides again, a tourist railway that this year celebrates its 25th edition and represents another way of exploring the

World Heritage

city by Unesco a stone's throw from the capital.

It is a short trip, only 35 minutes, but in very good company.

Because in this convoy the travelers are guided by a

cast of actors and extras

who, dressed in period costumes, pay homage to Cervantes' work through brief theatrical performances.

This season, the train will run every Saturday until July

2

, including May 1 and with the exception of April 23.

In autumn it returns between September 17 and December 3.

The experience costs 22 euros (16 euros for children from 7 to 11 years old) and includes the ticket for the Cercanías train, the

guided tour and the entrance to the monuments

.

Because that is what it is also about, enjoying a visit to the valuable cultural heritage of Alcalá de Henares.

The itinerary on foot runs through the most outstanding buildings of the Complutense monumental complex from the

Palace of Laredo

to the University.

The route has been consolidated since 1997, thanks to the collaboration of Renfe Cercanías Madrid and the Alcalá de Henares City Council, together with the Community of Madrid and the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá.

have enjoyed this tourist product that has been incorporating initiatives, such as the raffle of a Cervantine work or participation in the famous medieval market.

For the railway company, "these 25 years of the Cervantes Train is the story of a quixotic dream that has led to the union of art, literature and the history of Alcalá de Henares with the Cercanías Madrid service. A birthday that looks decisively towards the future, as Miguel de Cervantes always did, the most universal son of the town".

Other appointments: the Roman Market

The tourist train allows the possibility of returning also on Sunday and thus having more time to explore the other treasures of the city, such as the

Roman city of Complutum

, the most important Roman site in the region, and the

House of Hippolytus,

which hides the valuable Fish Mosaic.

In addition, travelers who come to Alcalá de Henares between April 29 and May 2 will be able to attend the

Roman Market.

This event will feature dozens of street stalls, historical re-enactments, workshops, games, music and nine theater groups who are experts in recreating the Roman world of Europe.
