The prices of okra in Egypt witnessed an unprecedented rise in the markets, where the price of one kilo recorded an amount ranging from 120 to 150 pounds for the first time in the country's history.


Deputy Head of the Vegetables and Fruits Division in the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, Hatem Al-Naguib, said that the prices of vegetables have witnessed a significant increase, while some fruit prices have stabilized.

He added that okra prices witnessed significant increases in the Egyptian market, especially after the delay in the volume of summer production.

Al-Naguib explained that the existing quantities of okra in the Egyptian market are few, and with the intensity of strong buying during the month of Ramadan, the quantities diminished, and merchants tended to raise their prices.

The price of a kilo of okra in the Cairo markets ranged between 120 and 150 pounds, and the price of a kilo of tomatoes in the Cairo markets ranged between 15 and 20 pounds. 

While the price of tomatoes in Menoufia governorate stabilized, at about 15 pounds per kilo, cucumbers at 10 pounds, and peppers 25 pounds per kilo, and the price of a kilo of grape leaves reached 20 pounds per kilo, and turkey peppers at 20 pounds per kilo.

A number of traders confirmed that during the next few period, many agricultural crops will witness a decline in prices, especially tomatoes, with the end of the lug interval and an increase in productivity.
