Johanna Ekström was mainly known as a writer, but was also active as an artist.
At the age of 22, she made her debut as a poet with "Slate" and published a total of seven collections of poems.
In 2012 came her autobiographical book "If you stay in the sun" where she wrote about growing up in a well-known Swedish cultural family.
Her mother, Margareta Ekström, was a writer, translator and critic and her father Per Wästberg was a writer and member of the Swedish Academy.
In the book "Meningarna" from 2020, Johanna Ekström wrote about the relationship with her mother, who suffered a stroke 25 years ago.
The cultural news's literary critic Ulrika Milles called the work:
"The best she's done.
It is a frictional emotional study of the violence in care, of the kind of immortality - man as shell - that arises when memories become inaccessible to language. "
Johanna Ekström turned 51 years old.
