Egypt receives a historic gift from America

The Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, received from his American counterpart, Anthony Blinken, a historic gift to Egypt, to commemorate the centenary of relations between Egypt and the United States of America.

The gift, according to local newspapers, is a copy of two letters, one of which is a letter recognizing Egypt's independence and sovereignty and the document establishing relations addressed by then US President Warren Harding to King Ahmed Fouad.

The other letter was a letter from the US Secretary of State at the time, Charles Hughes, to Abd al-Khaliq Sarwat Pasha, congratulating him on independence.

And Abdel-Khaleq Tharwat Pasha, is the Prime Minister of Egypt during the reign of King Fouad I, and he took office in 1922, and then between 1927 and 1928.

In Harding's letter to King Ahmed Fouad, "I am pleased to offer Your Majesty's blessing, on the occasion of the United States' recognition of Egypt's independence. In my name and on behalf of the American people, I welcome you to the family of free nations. My full hope is to you and your people for an era of happiness and prosperity."

The letter was signed by Warren Harding on April 26, 1922, and states that Harding served as President of the United States from 1921 to 1923.
