On April 11, local time, US President Biden had an hour-long online meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In what has been described as a "very candid dialogue", the U.S. and India communicated about the situation in Ukraine.

Biden told Modi that buying more oil from Russia was not in India’s interest and could hamper the U.S. response to the situation in Russia and Ukraine, a U.S. official said.

India's position in the world will not be enhanced by its dependence on Russian energy.

Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar later dismissed questions about India's energy purchases from Russia at a news conference, saying the focus should be on Europe, not India.

"Our total purchases for the month may be less than the purchases of one afternoon in Europe".

According to a statement issued by the White House on the same day, Biden and Modi pledged to strengthen cooperation between the United States and India in clean energy, technology and military fields, strengthen economic ties between the two countries, and expand cultural exchanges between the two countries.
